Recommendations and use of ski and snow goggles (features, frame, placement, lenses, maintenance)

Masks or goggles for winter sports have proven to be vital and fully extended by the security they provide.

UV rays affects to eyes in higher measure during the practice of winter sports by several factors. First,  we are at higher altitude and tis rays must travel less distance to us, on the other hand reflection occurs against the white ground surface, the snow. Besides UV rays goggles also protect of the effect of air, water, snow… when you move quickly.

Actually due to this circumstance exist endless available models in market in a broad price spectrum. Although to buy all these models are recommended to follow a series of recommendations, wich is defined then.

-Types of goggles

  • Designed for use with glasses.
  • Models equipped with a dual lens that prevents blurred, designed for users who realize descents at a certain speed.
  • Interchangeable Lens, provide maximum adaptability regarding weather conditions.

Features

-Frame and placement

  • The first and more important aspect is the proper use and placement of goggles, ya que sino en caso de impacto because otherwise in case of impact may be lost or turned.
  • Ventilation points, serve to create an air flow to regulate the temperature and prevent the formation of steam.
  • The vision angle should be as large as possible. In this way you will see your environment, this will provide you greater security.
  • In the bonding surface between the frame and face must be some material (foam usually) that provides maximum comfort, the best fit and in case of impact dissipate possible forces generated.
  • Very important is that its use is compatible with the use of helmets.
  • Ensure that goggle straps do not hurts the ears.

-Lenses

There are models, as mentioned above, which have multiple lenses to preventing the formation of steam, if not there are lenses that are treated to prevent the formation of steam. Very important aspect in a goggle, in our opinion.

At least if you ski in light conditions is recommended that the glasses protect 95% of UV rays. We also suggest using glasses that provide total protection against this rays.

Exist differents types of lenses which can be differentiated by color.

Black polarized: Reduces distortion and reflections although in low light conditions reduces visibility.

Roses, highlights the shadows and contrast, increasing its effectiveness in low light conditions.

Transparents, used in very low light conditions, such as night.

Green or silver, the best to improve the contrast. Perfect in daylight.

Yellow, amber and red, are lenses very versatile because filter blue light and define shadows. Valid for all conditions.

-Maintenance and conservation

They must be transported in bags or boxes designed for this.

The lenses should be cleaned with a soft cloth and water. In case of formation of frost it can be used paper to clean it.

Be careful when cleaning the internal lens with a cloth because this may affect anti-fog treatment. You can leave that it dries.
